Trans Attitudes - A View Of The Media

Two relatively low level news stories have come out this week about two different DJs - one unfortunately had a heart attack so has sensibly decided to step back from DJing for a while, and the other is releasing an album. Interesting yes, absolutely earth shattering? No, but the thing that links both stories is that the subjects are from the trans community - and that showed in the near instaneous and vile comments that have been posted - mostly by male individuals. Two different sites - Mixmag and Resident Advisor posted the stories, both have had similar comments, and neither have done anything about them.

Given the momentum of the unfortunate right wing fascism on the rise this kind of silence from those owning the communciation lines with the public in this way - with the absolute irony of the subject matter and the history of the scene being rooted in the gay and alternative communities will only encourage more of these kind of responses.
